Dr. Mimi Vaquer- 2022-2023
Dr. Vaquer was born in Savannah, GA in 1974. She attended First Christian Church Kindergarten and then Blessed Sacrament School from 1st - 8th grade. Her high school years were spent at the all-girls school, Saint Vincent's Academy, that has been located in downtown Savannah, GA since it opened in 1845.
Dr. Vaquer graduated with a BA in English from Georgia Southern University in 1997 and with a Masters in English Curriculum and Instruction from Armstrong Atlantic State University in 2011. She graduated with a Doctor of Education degree in Curriculum Studies from Georgia Southern University in 2015. Her certification qualifies her to teach 6th-12th grade Language Arts.
After years of working as an Account Executive for different Savannah businesses, Dr. Vaquer decided to return to her passion for language and began to teach English in 2005. She taught 7th grade Language Arts for one year and 8th grade Language Arts for four years at South Effingham Middle School before coming to South Effingham High School for the 10/11 school year. Dr. Vaquer previously served on the board of the Poetry Society of Georgia and was the Associate Editor for a small literary journal based in Texas. Her poetry and fiction have been published in many different literary journals, including Cream City Review, Hayden's Ferry Review, Southern Poetry Anthology, and Gargoyle Magazine. Her first poetry chapbook, Scratching Bones, is available through Pudding House Press. Her book, Poetics of Curriculum, Poetics of Life: An Exploration of Poetry in the Context of Selves, Schools, and Society was published in 2016 by Sense Publishers and is available through Amazon.
