BES Students Shine on Aloha Leader Day
Blandford Elementary School (BES) celebrated their annual Leader Day on May 19, 2023, with the exciting theme of Aloha Leader Day. This special event aimed to acknowledge the significant impact of the Leader in Me program on the lives of BES students.
The ceremony was hosted by Nathan Rojas and Yatacey Singleton, two enthusiastic students from BES. Mackenzie Clark, a remarkable Student Leader, delivered a compelling speech, sharing how the Leader in Me program helped her recognize and utilize her inherent leadership qualities to achieve success. The Student Lighthouse Team, responsible for fostering a positive school environment and promoting good citizenship through effective risk prevention, explained how they harness their talents, be it in art, sports, music, or any subject, to become stronger leaders.
During the event, Student Ambassadors led tours of the classrooms, offering a firsthand glimpse into the practical implementation of the Leader in Me program. Students eagerly discussed their goals and progress tracking.
The program also showcased the artistic talents of BES students through various performances. Mrs. Plankenhorn's class captivated the audience with their rendition of the song "Leader," while Mrs. Clark's Pre-K class impressed everyone with their original composition and performance of "I'm a Leader." The 5th graders showcased their dance skills with a lively performance to the song "Magalenha," and 5th grade student EmyCate Virtue wowed the crowd with a remarkable solo rendition of Adele's "Easy on Me." The ceremony concluded on a high note with a splendid performance by the BES Chorus and Ukulele Club.
Principal LaToya Jones made an exciting announcement during the event, revealing that Blandford Elementary School has achieved an exceptional milestone. BES has become the first and only Leader in Me School in the district to be recognized as a Lighthouse School, the highest honor bestowed upon Leader in Me schools. Typically, this recognition takes up to 8 years to accomplish, but BES remarkably achieved it in just 3 years!
