Congratulations to Dallas Smith of the Effingham County Middle School FFA for receiving a scholarship the attend the Billy Lancaster Forestry Youth Camp to be held at the FFA-FCCLA Camp from July 9 - July 13

The Billy Lancaster Forestry Youth Camp was founded in 1988 by the late Billy Lancaster, who passed away in 2003. Mr. Lancaster, a long-time supporter and promoter of forestry, raised funds to support the camp. Because of his dedicated efforts, hundreds of Georgia’s youth have learned about the value and importance of Georgia’s forests and wildlife in their everyday lives.

At Georgia’s five-day summer Forestry Youth Camp, middle school students investigate the wonders of forest and wildlife ecology, learn how to identify trees, and discover the value and importance of forests in their daily lives. They spend time with professionals who manage Georgia’s forest land and others who work in the forest products industry.

  • Scheduling Clarification for 2016 - 2017

We are pleased to introduce a 1st period literacy block for all ECMS students this school year.  During this 35 minute segment of time, our students will be engaged in reading high-interest, content-related texts.  We will now have a 7 period day, with "Library/Research Skills" representing our literacy block.  We are excited about the positive impact that this literacy focus will have on our Panthers!

  • More about “Student Growth”…

“Georgia is implementing the student growth percentile (SGP) methodology. SGPs describe the amount of growth a student has demonstrated relative to academically-similar students from across the state. Growth percentiles range from 1 to 99, with lower percentiles indicating lower academic growth and higher percentiles indicating higher academic growth. With SGPs, all students – regardless of their achievement level – have the opportunity to demonstrate all levels of growth.”

Georgia’s new state-mandated set of standards for students, CCGPS (College and Career-Ready Georgia Performance Standards), provide a clear understanding of what students are expected to learn in Language Arts and Math from grades K – 12. This school year, Georgia will begin administering new assessments that reflect the CCGPS standards, and the results from these tests will be used to determine areas of students’ strengths and weaknesses. The difference between these new assessments and the former tests (CRCT) is that they include opened ended items as well as multiple choice questions enabling teachers to gain a better understanding of student progress from one grade level to the next. You will find more information regarding the new assessments by accessing the parent brochure at the following link:

Beginning with the 2014-15 school year, the Effingham County School District will no longer mass print report cards and progress reports.  Parents will need to access the grade report information in one of two ways: 1) Via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal or 2) By requesting that hard copies of the grades be sent home upon each release of progress reports and report cards.  If you need access to the parent portal or need hard copies to be sent home due to a lack of internet service, please print out the ECMS Parent Portal Information Form, complete it, and return it to the school with your student.  Thank you!

The ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act) of 1965 requires that parents of children in Title I schools be notified of how well their school is preparing its students for college and/or a career.  It also requires that Title I schools provide information regarding their designation status under Georgia’s ESEA Flexibility Waiver.  Please see the attached links for the ECMS designation status information as well as the Effingham County School District as a whole:
