🚍 Transportation Overview
The Effingham County Board of Education provides bus transportation to all eligible resident students. This service supports both schools and families by offering safe and efficient access to campuses from all areas of the county.
The School Superintendent is responsible for bus scheduling and routing, which is delegated to the Transportation Coordinator. All routing and scheduling complies with state and federal laws. Bus routes are designed to ensure students travel the shortest practical distance from home to school, and students must ride their assigned bus to and from the designated stop nearest their home.
📏 Route Design & Guidelines
To maintain efficiency, the following guidelines are used when altering established bus routes:
- The Board does not provide transportation for students living within 1.5 miles of school, unless it is deemed a safety concern.
- Students within 1/4 mile of a bus route must meet the bus at a designated stop.
- Routes may be adjusted to pick up students more than 1/4 mile away if:
- There is adequate turn-around space.
- The road is well maintained and safe.
- No safety hazards exist for the bus or students.
- The road is public.
⛅ Weather Conditions
Effingham County will not alter bus routes during inclement weather. Parents are responsible for preparing students with umbrellas, rain gear, or meeting them at the stop in a private vehicle.
During severe weather, pickup or drop-off may be delayed until conditions are safe.
📘 Code of Conduct
Students must comply with all Effingham County School Code of Conduct rules while riding the bus. Violations may result in disciplinary actions per the Student Code of Conduct.
