This week, students from the Effingham County School District had the opportunity to attend the Beyond Sight exhibit at the Otis S. Johnson Cultural Arts Center Gallery in Savannah. This powerful, multisensory exhibition challenges traditional perceptions of art by focusing on accessibility, interaction, and inclusive expression.
Now in its second iteration, Beyond Sight showcases a wide range of creative works, including tactile sculptures, interactive installations, and innovative audiovisual experiences. The exhibit encourages all participants to engage with art beyond visual perception—celebrating the limitless potential of human expression and the power of art to connect and inspire.
After exploring the sensory-based displays, students participated in a clay activity where they created a piece representing a personal memory. This hands-on experience not only allowed them to express their creativity but also offered a meaningful way to reflect on how memories can be interpreted and conveyed through touch and form.
We are incredibly grateful for opportunities like this that nurture creativity, inclusion, and personal growth.
