South Effingham Elementary Students Shine in READBOWL 2025

Students in Mrs. Amanda Sanders' 2nd-grade class at South Effingham Elementary have successfully completed the Share the Magic Foundation's READBOWL 2025, a reading competition to inspire students of all ages to develop a love for reading. The competition, founded by Super Bowl champion Malcolm Mitchell, ran for four weeks, or “quarters,” challenging students to read as much as possible.

Despite losing a week of in-class reading due to recent Snow Days, Mrs. Sanders' class demonstrated remarkable dedication, collectively reading 14,021 minutes, averaging an impressive 934 minutes per student.

“We are incredibly proud of our students for their hard work and commitment to reading, especially given the interruption caused by the weather,” said Mrs. Sanders. “This accomplishment highlights their enthusiasm for learning and the importance of making reading a priority.”

Reading: A Lifelong Skill and Key to Student Success

Reading is more than just a school subject — it’s a fundamental skill that influences every aspect of a student's education. Research consistently shows that children who engage in regular reading develop stronger vocabularies, better comprehension skills, and improved critical thinking abilities. The READBOWL competition has proven to be a fun and engaging way to encourage young readers, helping them develop a lifelong love for books while sharpening these essential skills.

By participating in READBOWL 2025, Mrs. Sanders' students have earned a sense of accomplishment and built a solid foundation for future academic success. As Malcolm Mitchell, the founder of Share the Magic Foundation, advocates, reading unlocks new opportunities, broadens perspectives, and nurtures creativity.

“I believe that reading is a powerful tool that can shape any child's future,” said Mitchell. “Through initiatives like READBOWL, we aim to make reading enjoyable and rewarding, empowering students to embrace education in all its forms.”

The students of Mrs. Sanders’ class are excited to celebrate their achievements and look forward to future opportunities to share the magic of reading.
