Dr. Yancy Ford Honored with 2025 GSSA President’s Award

Dr. Yancy Ford, Superintendent of Effingham County Schools, has been named the recipient of the prestigious 2025 Georgia School Superintendents Association (GSSA) President’s Award, recognizing his exceptional leadership, innovative practices, and unwavering commitment to student success.

The award is presented annually by GSSA to superintendents who are making a significant impact in their community through forward-thinking programs that lead to positive outcomes for students. Dr. Ford was nominated by his peers in First District RESA, a testament to the respect and admiration he has earned from fellow leaders across the region.

“Dr. Ford is someone we all look to for advice and wisdom,” said Dr. Jim Thompson, Superintendent of Screven County Schools and President of the First District RESA Board of Control. “His leadership continues to inspire all of us.”

Dr. Bubba Longgrear, Superintendent of Candler County Schools and President of GSSA, echoed those sentiments: “Dr. Ford is a leader. He puts students first and is respected across our state for the work he has led in Effingham County.”

Although the award was officially announced at the GSSA Bootstrap Conference in April, Dr. Ford was unable to attend the event as he was supporting one of his sons at a school activity. In true form, Dr. Ford’s focus on family and humility meant the news of his award remained under wraps until today.

In a surprise presentation during the first board meeting of the new school year on Wednesday, August 6, Richard Smith, Executive Director of First District RESA, formally presented the award to Dr. Ford in front of board members, district leaders, and colleagues.

"Dr. Ford’s innovative leadership, consistent focus on student achievement, and commitment to growing a strong school system make him a natural choice for this recognition," said Smith. "Effingham County is fortunate to have such a dedicated and visionary superintendent at the helm."

Under Dr. Ford’s leadership, Effingham County Schools has seen continuous growth in student performance and system-wide success, driven by collaborative partnerships, strategic planning, and a student-first mindset.

The district extends its congratulations and appreciation to Dr. Ford for his outstanding service and this well-deserved honor.
