Annual Marching Mustang Invitational

Over 1,800 Students Compete at the 14th Annual Marching Mustang Invitational 

This past weekend, the 14th Marching Mustang Invitational (MMI) saw over 1,800 band students from 14 high schools across Georgia and South Carolina compete in a day filled with music and showmanship. The event took place at South Effingham High School’s Corral Stadium, drawing a capacity crowd. 

High school marching bands delivered powerful performances, showcasing months of preparation and dedication. Following the competition, the South Effingham Marching Mustangs took the field in an exhibition performance of their 2024 show, “Joker”, thrilling the audience with a display of precision and musicality.

Class winners for the competition were:

  • Class 1A: New Hampstead High School
  • Class 2A: Liberty County High School
  • Class 3A: Evans High School
  • Class 4A: Colleton County High School (SC)
  • Class 5A: Lakeside High School (Evans)

In the overall standings:

  • Grand Championship: Lakeside High School (Evans)
  • 1st Runner-Up: Brookwood High School 
  • 2nd Runner-Up: Effingham County High School 
  • 1st Place Overall Guard: Effingham County High School

The South Effingham Band Boosters, who organized the event, expressed their deep gratitude to all sponsors, volunteers, and the Marching Mustangs, noting that this was the largest MMI to date.
