• Eagles of Distinction

    by School Administration

When a student, staff member, or visitor enters Ebenezer Middle School (EMS), they are immediately met with an aura of distinction that continually radiates around the campus.

First and foremost, this aura is exhibited by the academic success of EMS’ students and staff. Ebenezer Middle met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the 2008-2009, 2009-2010, and 2010-2011 school years.  The 2011; 7th grade CRCT Math scores ranked in the top 30 counties in the state of Georgia.  In addition the third place contestant in the 2011 county spelling bee came from Ebenezer Middle School.

This distinction is also exhibited in the school’s sports achievements. Ebenezer Middle offers a wide variety of sports including cheerleading, volleyball, baseball, wrestling, boys and girls soccer, softball, boys and girls track, as well as boys and girls tennis.  The banners and trophies on display show the excellence and perfection the athletes and coaches expect.

Not only is the distinction demonstrated through academics and sports programs, it can also be seen in the various extracurricular club/activities offered at the school.  Their community service activities include fundraising for various charities and organizations, performing for the student body at assemblies, organizing food drives during the holidays, creating boxes of support to our troops deployed overseas, as well as planning and implementing the school’s annual Veteran’s Day assembly.

The aura is also witnessed through EMS’ Performing Arts Program.  These programs include Art, Jazz Band, Show Choir, and Chorus.  EMS art students have received scholarships and local and national recognition.  The Band program at EMS receives excellent and superior ratings each year with numerous band students selected for honor bands and for the Middle School Band Clinic.  The Swingin’ Eagles Jazz Band performed for the Rotary Club of Effingham County at the Pancake Supper held at Rincon Elementary.  The Chorus Program earns superior ratings every year and EMS students are regularly selected for honor choirs and All-State Chorus.  In addition, the Show Choir travels annually and performs at various events such as Disney and the local Effingham County nursing home.

Our students could not be successful, however, without one very important group, the school’s supportive parents.  Parental involvement is encouraged and welcomed at Ebenezer Middle School.  Parents have several opportunities to become active within the school by becoming volunteers, members, and supporters of the PTSO (Parent Teacher Student Organization) at Ebenezer Middle, School Council and Athletic Boosters.  Ebenezer Middle is very proud of the parental support it receives from the school community.

Finally, the aura of distinction exhibited throughout the school could not be accomplished without the wonderful staff who call Ebenezer Middle School home.  There are over 100 on staff at EMS, each performing their roles with diligence and hard work.  Our mission at Ebenezer Middle School is to develop lifelong learners so that they may become productive citizens in our society. As they learn, they become like eagles, soaring for greater heights!
