School Councils are designed to bring communities and schools closer together in a spirit of cooperation and to promote school improvement.

School Council has 7 members:

• the principal
• 2 faculty representatives
• 4 parent representatives.
  • Two of those parent representatives must be associated with a business. 

The following roles will need to be elected:

• Chairperson
• Asst. Chairperson
• Secretary

There should be one meeting scheduled for each 9 week grading period. The recent election meeting may not count as one of your council’s four required meetings for the school year.

• attend four (4) meetings during the school year;
• maintain a school-wide perspective on issues;
• act as a link between the School Council and the community;
• encourage the participation of parents and others within the school community; and 
• work to improve student achievement and performance.

Parents who have children enrolled at the school for the current school year are eligible to participate in the election process and to serve on the School Council as long as the parent is at least 18 years of age.

At the election meeting, the voting procedures will be explained, the names of submitted nominees will be announced, and additional nominations will be taken from the floor as part of the election process.  Only parents attending the election meeting will be able to vote.  The individuals receiving the highest number of votes at this meeting will be considered the parent representatives for the School Council.  Members are elected for two-year terms on a rotating basis.
