  • Hurricane Ian Update - 9/26/22 5:30 PM

We are closely monitoring the path of Hurricane Ian. The latest model from the NHC shows a fairly substantial shift in the cone of probability since 11:00 a.m. this morning, to the East. Sustained winds have increased to 100 mph, which is up from 75 mph this morning. Ian is still forecasted to grow in strength to at least a Category 3 (Major) before landfall in Florida. The forward motion of the storm is currently 13 mph.

There is still  a high degree of uncertainty as to what impacts Effingham County may receive.

Our probability of TS force wind gusts is currently around 30-40%. The most probable time frame for arrival of TS force gusts is Thursday night into Friday morning. We are in direct communication several times per day with the Effingham Emergency Management Team and will keep each of you updated on the storm and any changes we plan to implement.
