Welcome back to school! I am looking forward to meeting and working with my 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students this year.  This is my 17th year at Effingham County Middle School and my 9th year working with students in the Reading program. I have been teaching middle school students for the past 38 years, and  I am very excited about beginning this 22-23 school year. I know it will be a full-fulfilling and productive year for all of my students. 

Welcome to the Lexia "Power Up" Literacy program.

The Lexia "Power Up" Literacy program, is a "self-paced, age-appropriate and challenging program" that "accelerates literacy gains for students. Students receive personalized placement and instruction in Word Study, Grammar, and Comprehension skills." (Lexia Learning LLC).

The Lexia "Power Up" program will be used daily to help engage your child while improving his/her reading skills, along with small group activities, and independent reading time. All instruction and independent work is completed in class, although students may access the Lexia program from home, if additional time on the program is desired.

Daily material requirements for class will include: a charged chromebook, headphones/ear pods in order to interact with the Lexia program, and pen or pencil.

• Students will be using Google Classroom to complete warm ups, group assignments, and Reading Logs, etc. 
• Tutoring is available on Tuesdays. Prior arrangements will need to be made for tutoring, please.
• Log into the student gmail account to access ECMS bookmarks. The Lexia Power Up icon can be found there.
