Dr. Sullivan

My name is Dr. Ashley Sullivan, and I am joining the SEES family! I have one son who is 7 years old, and he is my world. He loves to play basketball and football. I have many hobbies, but my friends and family like to say my main hobby is staying in school. What can I say? I have a growth mindset! I believe it is vital to expand my knowledge to better support all learners and mentor other educators. Some of my other hobbies include spending time with my family, writing poetry, binge-watching Netflix, working out, and creating things.

I am elated to work as the new special education teacher for the behavior support classroom. Before becoming an educator, I worked as a behavior therapist with children who have autism. In 2014, I began my teaching career as a 1st-grade teacher. In addition to teaching 1st-grade, I have taught kindergarten and 3rd-grade. Additionally, I have experience working with gifted students. Lastly, I mentored two Georgia Southern students through the Residency Program offered by the university.

As an educator, I believe it is vital to have core beliefs that guide not only your instruction but your environment. My first core belief is that every student can learn and you must set high expectations from the beginning. Second, having a positive and caring attitude and a learning environment sets the foundation for success. Third, build a strong foundation of trust and respect with all staff, students, and parents. My fourth and last core belief is accountability. We are a team and when everyone works together, growth will be astonishing. One of my favorite things to say is together, everyone, achieves, more!

Everyone has their own philosophy about education. My philosophy is based on the theorist Lev Vygotsky, which is believing that every child is our future and that all children have the potential to bring something special and unique to a diverse society.
