School Councils are designed to bring parents and the community together with teachers and school administrators to create a better understanding of and mutual respect for each other’s concerns and to share ideas for school improvement.

On the first day of school, your child is sent home with a School Council nomination form. Check below for your school's 2022-2023 election date.

What is the purpose of the School Council?
School Councils are designed to bring communities and schools closer together in a spirit of cooperation and to promote school improvement.

Members and Roles
School Council has 7 members:
- the principal
- 2 faculty representatives
- 4 parent representatives.
- Two of those parent representatives must be associated with a business.
The following roles will need to be elected:
- Chairperson
- Asst. Chairperson
- Secretary

Scheduled Meetings
There should be one meeting scheduled for each 9 week grading period. The recent election meeting may not count as one of your council’s four required meetings for the school year.

What is the responsibility of a council member?
- attend four (4) meetings during the school year;
- maintain a school-wide perspective on issues;
- act as a link between the School Council and the community;
- encourage the participation of parents and others within the school community; and
- work to improve student achievement and performance.

What makes a parent eligible?
Parents who have children enrolled at the school for the current school year are eligible to participate in the election process and to serve on the School Council as long as the parent is at least 18 years of age.

What is the election process?
At the election meeting, the voting procedures will be explained, the names of submitted nominees will be announced, and additional nominations will be taken from the floor as part of the election process. Only parents attending the election meeting will be able to vote. The individuals receiving the highest number of votes at this meeting will be considered the parent representatives for the School Council. Members are elected for two-year terms on a rotating basis.
