Ebenezer Middle School is utilizing PBIS Rewards to support its PBIS initiative.
That sounds great, but what is PBIS? PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports. It seeks to reduce or eliminate poor behavior school-wide through the encouragement of positive behaviors. PBIS decreases office discipline referrals, increases instructional time, and improves student achievement. This intentional focus on positive reinforcement creates and maintains a positive school climate for the students and teachers.
Now, how do PBIS Rewards help with that? PBIS Rewards is a digital platform that allows our staff members to recognize any student, anywhere, for meeting behavior expectations. The school defines these behavior expectations, then communicated and taught. So, when your child displays the behavior that is expected, they may be recognized for it. The points earned through that recognition may be used to purchase items from the school’s PBIS store, such as jeans day passes, free ice cream, free admission to athletic events, etc. Students may track their point totals and view store items by accessing PBIS Rewards through their district Clever account, which can be found when students log in to Google Chrome using their school email account.
PBIS Celebration Days- Near the end of each 9 weeks grading period, there will be a PBIS Celebration for students who consistently exhibit positive behavior in all school areas and maintain good attendance and good grades. Students who qualify for these celebrations will be excused from class for a time during the day and will participate in a fun and exciting event. Specific requirements and details of each celebration will be advertised and explained frequently throughout the school year.
PBIS Badges- Students will be provided with a PBIS badge and lanyard near the beginning of the school year. This badge serves multiple purposes. It allows students to be awarded PBIS points by any adult in the building. The badges will also be scanned in the lunchroom by cashiers and in the media center for book checkout. Students are expected to wear their badges while at school. Students may provide their own dress code-compliant lanyards. Replacements for lost or damaged badges will be available for purchase through the student office.
