More about me
College/University Degree Earned Liberty University Education Specialist Degree in Leadership McDaniel College, MD Masters of Science in Education Administration Austin Peay State University, TN Bachelors of Science in Political ScienceWELCOME!Good day young minds of the future! I would like to take a minute to introduce myself. I'm Mrs. McDonald your Social Studies director. I have been teaching since 2003 where I started my journey in North Carolina. I taught in North Carolina for 3 years before moving to Maryland, where I taught for 5 years. In 2011 my family was blessed with the opportunity to move overseas, and we seized this once-in-a-lifetime chance. We moved to Germany! I was able to secure a job teaching at Ramstein American High School on the Air Force base. We spent a glorious 2.5 years traveling and living the European dream. It was amazing! After Germany, our journey brought us here to lovely, and often hot, Georgia, and we love it. During my first two years here in Georgia, I taught in a neighboring county and learned so much about my students, the area, and myself. In 2016, I was blessed with the opportunity to come to work here in Effingham County, and be part of the opening of the county's new STEM program. This will be my sixth year at STEM, and I couldn't be more proud of our work here.I can't say enough positive things about the students, the parents, my colleagues, and the administration at STEM. We have worked hard to create an amazing learning environment, and I'm so proud of all of the accomplishments of our students and staff. I'm looking forward to our upcoming year at STEM and making amazing classroom memories with my students. I'm even more excited to be serving as Student Council Advisor and Senior Committee Advisor. We will continue to work hard at continuing our traditions here and establishing new traditions for our students.
Over the course of my years in teaching, I have taught just about every Social Studies course within the field. From US History to American Government to Economics and even Sociology and Psychology. I have taught them all. During these years at STEM, we have been very successful at passing the College Board AP US Government & Politics test, as well as the AP Macroeconomics test. Both tests have had over 75% of the students earning a 3 or better for the past 4-years and counting, which is higher than the national pass rate. What an amazing accomplishment for our students! This year for the first time, we will be offering AP Microeconomics, and guess who is teaching it? You guessed it... me! I'm excited and maybe a little scared of teaching 3 AP courses, but I have confidence in our students and in my ability to help them learn.I look forward to this next coming school year, and should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you again for the privilege and honor of teaching your student.Let's make it a great year!Mrs. McDonald
