Coach Onorato grew up in Erie, PA. He attended McDowell High School, where he played football and wrestled. He earned All-State honors in wrestling in 1987 & 1988. He earned a wrestling scholarship to West Virginia University, where he was a four-year Letterman, two-year Captain, and two-year NCAA qualifier. In 1991, he was a starting team member that finished 6th in the nation at the NCAA Wrestling Championships. In 1993, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Health, and in 1994 earned his Master of Science in Community Health Promotions.
In 1997 he moved to Kennesaw, GA, where he taught Physical Education and coached wrestling and football at Harrison High School. In 2000, as an assistant coach, he helped lead Harrison High School to a State Championship.
In 2000, He and his wife Patty moved to Effingham County. He has taught for five years at South Effingham Middle School and seven years at South Effingham High School. While at South Effingham High School, his wrestling teams won 3 Region Titles and 3 Top 10 finishes in the state. He also coached one individual State Champion and 14 individual All-State wrestlers.
In 2013, he came to Ebenezer Middle School, where he coaches middle school wrestling and football. He teaches 6th-grade Physical Education and 7th & 8th Grade Weight Training.
He has been married to his beautiful wife, Patty Onorato, for 22 years (who is currently retired from Physical Education at Rincon Elementary). He is the father of Yezzi Onorato and stepfather of Chris & Andrew Leahy and is the proud grandfather of Brooklyn Leahy.
