• Welcome to GT at SEES! I am so excited about teaching your child and working with you this school year. I would like to begin by telling you a little about myself.   I have over 20 years of teaching experience.  I began my teaching careeer in SC and then my family moved to Georgia where I have taught at both Marlow and South Effingham Elementary schools. I have taught in 1st, 3rd, and 4th grade classrooms. Now, I have the wonderful privilage of facilitating the Gifted & Talented program here at South Effingham Elementary School.  I received my teaching degree from Winthrop University majoring in Early Childhood Education.   I applied for and obtained National Board Certification in the field of Early Childhood Education. I then earned my Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis on Instructional Technology.   Even with all of these accomplishments, my best and most valuable learning experiences has come from working in the classroom with my students and collaborating with my fellow teachers!

My family is also a huge part of my world! Jonathan and I have two wonderful sons.  Austin just graduate from the University of Georgia and Clay is a senior at South Effingham High. I am looking forward to having you and your child as part of my school family!

My goal this year is to help your child to have the most successful year possible! This process requires us to be able to work together and communicate.   If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at abarefield@effingham.k12.ga.us or by calling the school at 728-3801.   I am looking forward to working with you and getting to know you and your child this school year!
