Parent University-Effingham is a non-profit community collaborative that provides free learning sessions designed to assist parents in supporting their children to achieve in school and life. The sessions focus on child development, what children are learning in school, advocacy, parent leadership, effective parenting skills, and personal growth and development.

FAQ

What Are the Graduation Requirements?

Participant must complete five (5) CORE classes per year. (Classes that improve student achievement and strengthen the family unit.)
Participant must have a total of fifteen (15) credits. Ten additional credits will entitle you to be an Honor Graduate.
Additional credits can be earned at other approved school and community functions as parent workshops, classroom visits, Parent/Teacher Conferences, and PTA/PTO/Booster Clubs.

How Does Parent University Work?

Parent University offers three Saturday learning sessions during the year, one during the Fall, Winter, and Spring. A typical session begins with registration and continental breakfast, followed by a general session, three breakout sessions in which 1-3 credit hours can be earned per class, and
lunch. While the parents are in class, children in grades Pre-K-5 attend “Kidz Academy,” and children grades 6-12 attend Youth Leadership Classes that utilize research-based practices. Throughout the year, Parent University-Effingham collaborates with the schools and other community agencies that address the needs of families and supply free books for each child in attendance. During the Fall Session, a graduation is held for the participants who have earned the required credits.
