Effingham Martial Arts
The Story of America’s Best Martial Arts
America’s Best Martial Arts (ABMA) began with a dream and a deep sense of purpose from founder Carson Fortner. Inspired by his parents’ love and belief in him, Carson learned early lessons in discipline, respect, and perseverance — values that still guide ABMA today.
In 2010, Carson opened Pooler Karate with the mission to impact lives through martial arts. What began as one school quickly grew into a movement built on integrity, community, and purpose.
A turning point came when Carson welcomed a student with special needs — inspiring the creation of Special Kicks, a program that empowers students of all abilities through martial arts. This inclusive approach became central to ABMA’s mission to make martial arts accessible to everyone.
Today, ABMA includes thriving schools in Savannah, Pooler, Rincon, and Springfield, along with international outreach through Undertow Martial Arts in Honduras. The organization continues to grow leaders, instructors, and community changemakers.
Carson also founded The Lazarus Project, supporting disabled veterans as they rediscover strength and purpose through martial arts.
From one small dojo to a network of life-changing schools, Carson’s vision has become a legacy — proving that when passion meets purpose, communities thrive.
