I was born in Terre Haute, Indiana; grew up in Sarasota, Florida; moved to Macon, Georgia, to go to college; and have lived in the Savannah area since the Fall of 2001. I am married, have two sons, two daughters-in-law, and four absolutely adorable grandsons. Outside of school, my interests focus on my family, friends, and church. I love to take photographs, travel, relax at the beach, walk, shop, and read. J
For my formal education, I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree from Mercer University, with double majors in English and Communications and double minors in Speech and Business. I later earned my Master of Secondary English Education from Mercer as well. I authored and published my master’s thesis on multiple intelligences and the diversity of learning styles.
My first teaching experience at Northeast High School in Macon, Georgia, fostered my passion for teaching gifted and talented students. When I was hired to teach at this inner-city high school, gifted identified students were bussed to another school in order to receive services—there appeared to be little interest in meeting the unique needs of these learners. I added the gifted endorsement to my certification that year and taught these children at their own school for 9th and 10th grade literature and composition for the five remaining years I lived in Macon. After moving to the Savannah area in 2001, I taught 9th grade Honors English, creative writing, and initiated a school newspaper and literary magazine at Calvary Baptist Day School. In 2004, I obtained a teaching position at South Effingham High School, teaching 9th and 12th grade Literature and Composition, also serving as a mentor teacher and Clinical Supervisor for Georgia Southern University’s Teacher Education Program. This is now my sixth year as the High School Gifted Facilitator for Effingham County. My role is to ensure that the Gifted and Talented Program is implemented according to the State Board of Education Rules and Regulations. Additionally, it is my personal and professional goal to make sure that all GT identified students in Effingham County experience a rigorous and rewarding high school education. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns regarding your student or the High School Gifted and Talented Program. I am here to help J
