    Who is Mrs. Shuman?

I am a native of Rincon, GA and live in Pooler with my husband, Kyunnie and 9-year-old twins, Kaden and Kyla!  I also have a younger brother, Calvin, and sister-in-law, Felicia, who have both retired from the United States Army.  I have been blessed with 4 nieces, 2 nephews, and 3 Goddaughters.  After graduating from Effingham County High School with Honors (College Prep and Vocational seals) in 1994, I went on to graduate from The University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1998.  My first "real" job after college was a Registration Specialist at The Savannah College of Art and Design.  After gaining much experience with higher education AND meeting my husband, I decided that teaching was my God-given gift! My first year of teaching was at Ebenezer Middle School, and I taught 7th and 8th grade language arts for 9 years!

I also received my Master of Education in Secondary English Education in 2003 from Armstrong Atlantic State University.  After getting married in June of 2006, I graduated in May of 2009 from Georgia Southern University with an Educational Specialist degree in Teaching and Learning!  I was also named as a 2008 Master Teacher and graduated from the Effingham County Aspiring Leaders Program (ALP) in 2012!

I cannot believe that this is my NINETEENTH year of teaching!   I have taught 8th grade for 3 years, 7th grade for 6 years, and this will be my ninth year teaching high school (the fourth year teaching 12th grade and the first year teaching 10th)!  Creating life-long learners is my passion, and I cannot imagine having a career in any other field!  My outside interests include reading, tutoring students through my business, Learning is Key Educational Services, surfing the Internet, chatting on Facebook, hanging out with my husband/family/close friends, coordinating events, shopping, traveling, and trying new restaurants!

I look forward to a wonderful 2020-2021 school year here at ECHS!

Make it a great year . . . or not!  The choice is yours!
