Welcome to our Reading Connections Classroom. It is a pleasure working with your child.
The primary focus of this class is to improve students' reading, comprehension and writing skills and help them become on-grade level, proficient readers.
I was born and raised in Olean, New York, which is a small town along the Pennsylvania border and south of Buffalo. I graduated from Olean High School and graduated with a BS in Education from St. Bonaventure University. After moving to Georgia, I have attained both my Masters and Specialist degrees from Georgia Southern.
I have been teaching for 40 years, including teaching in New York, Virginia, South Carolina, and North Carolina and now Georgia.   After teaching in Chatham County for 6 years,  I was hired by Effingham County and have been teaching at Effingham County Middle school for the past 17 years.  I have taught ELA and have been teaching reading for the past 9 years.
It is important to set goals for improving your child's reading skills:
    •  Please sit down and talk with your child about the importance of reading and being able to comprehend reading materials that are on-grade level. Please read with your child as often as possible to help improve his/her reading skills. Ask your child questions about reading to reinforce comprehension. Check to see what he/she has learned in the program today or find out his/her level in the program. Help your child track the progress made in class.
Together, we can make a difference to your child's success.
    •  Please feel free to contact me with your questions and concerns. Email is probably the fastest and easiest way to contact me  (pgibson@effingham.k12.ga.us). I will return your mail as soon as possible. My office hours are on Wednesday from 1:30-3:30 but arrangements can be made for times during A and B days between class periods.
    • Tutoring is available on Tuesdays as needed. Please contact me via email to arrange a time.
Again, thank you for allowing me to work with your child. I look forward to starting this new year.
