    Class DoJo
Parents and Guardians, I rarely post on this web page because I will post everything on my Class DoJo web page. I sent a link for you to join at Open House.  You can send me a note or ask a question in Class DoJo.  I like to communicate with my parents and guardians-I post pictures of the children doing various activities, send important notes to parents/guardians, and record student's daily behavior in Class DoJo.

    STAR STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Information is found on the student's STAR sheet that goes home with them when they are chosen. It is a fun and special week for your child! I also have a special designated desk for the student of the week.

    Word Study
Please keep the homework set of Word Study Words at home. Parents/Guardians, if your child goes to Pryme Tyme after school, please keep the homework copy of the word study words and worksheet in your child's homework folder so that they can complete their homework assignment during Pryme Tyme.

    Homework
Homework assignments are sent home each week on the weekly newsletter.  Homework is given out every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of the week.  Wednesdays are set aside as "Family Night" time and no homework will be given. Remember to check and see what homework your child will be completing. Also, please make sure your child is writing their first name, last name, and student class number on all homework assignments.

Parents and Guardians keep track of your child's academic performance
Infinite Campus allows parents to keep track of their child's academic performance and view your child's grades.  Infinite Campus Parent Portal *Student ID/Password is given to parents at Open House.  I recommend checking your child’s grades periodically so you are not surprised at progress report or report card time. If you do not know how to access your child’s grades, please contact our data clerk, Marsha Strickland here at Sand Hill at 912-728-5112 and she will gladly provide you with the information you need to gain access to your child's grades. Things to do each night with your child:
    Reading
Students will need to spend 15 minutes per night reading library books to you or to another family member.  Talk about what happened in the story.  Use the 5 W's and H-who, what, where, when, why, and how questions to help with story comprehension.  Also, I will have a Monthly Reading Calendar that will be placed in your child's homework folder.  Remember to record the reading book title on the log each day (Monday through Friday). Students completing the chart each day will turn in at the end of the month (with parent's signature) and will be rewarded through the Pizza Hut Reading Program.

    Math
Practice basic addition and subtraction problems with your child, each night.  It is every child's goal in second grade to complete 60 addition and subtraction problems within 4 minutes.  We work on this skill everyday in class, but please partner with us and practice at home, so that your child is fluent with their math facts. I will be sending home Timed Math Fact Drills worksheets throughout the year to practice at home and this worksheet will be their homework for the night. We have two official math fact checks during the school year (January and May) to check, record, and monitor each student's math fluency growth. Remember to take a look at the great math website links that I have included that will be helpful practices for your child at home. Also, practicing with flash cards, playing online math games are great ways to make learning fun with your child!

**All students that complete/meet their 60 addition and subtraction problems/4 minute drill goal, will be awarded a Math Fact Challenge Certificate at the end of the year during the Second Grade Awards Program!
