Degrees and Certifications:
Dr. Charlene Andrews
Welcome to our classroom family. I am looking forward to working with you this school year. My purpose is to help your student develop and maintain reading and writing skills that will help them achieve success in the classroom and in their future endeavors.
Let me tell you a little about myself. This is my 15th year of teaching. I have taught 1st, 3rd, and 4th grades. I received a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and a Masters of Education in Reading from Georgia Southern University. In December of 2015, I graduated from Georgia Southern once again with a Curriculum Studies Ed.D. I am a constant learner, and I enjoy reading current research about reading and writing instruction. I am very passionate about using the writing process as part of a writer's workshop. I believe that when students write daily and have an opportunity to conference with me about their writing every week they become more successful writers. I also believe that students should have independent reading time every day. Therefore, I provide an opportunity for my students to get lost in a good book for at least 20 minutes daily. The purpose is to create a joy for reading and writing, and if a child already enjoys reading and writing, then the purpose is to maintain that joy.
On a personal note, I am a native of Effingham County. My husband and I have been married for about seventeen years, and we have two amazing boys. Pierce will be in the fourth grade this school year, and Logan will begin second grade. I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, writing columns for the Georgia Council of Teachers of English, CrossFit, running, and attending Georgia Southern football games.
As we begin the new school year, please know that we are a team. It is important for us to communicate throughout the school year to ensure your child's success in fourth grade. Feel free to call me at school (912-754-5522) and leave a message with the office if you have an emergency, or send me a message on the Remind app. Thank you for your support as we hit the ground running in fourth grade!
