My full name is Amanda Sanders, but of course, the kids call me Mrs. Amanda.
I've been married to Shane 15 years. We have a daughter, Emmaline, and son, Avery. Emmaline is 11 and is in the 5th grade. Avery is 7 and in First Grade. We also have a 15 year old, 6lb, Peek-A-Poo named Abby and just adopted two kittens, Stella & Luna named after one of my favorite books "StellaLuna".
I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education in the fall of 2003. Since then, I have taught Pre-K and Reading Recovery in the Effingham county school system. I went back to school to earn my ESOL endorsement in 2013 and learned a lot of valuable things in those courses that I hope will make me a better teacher. I have been in awe with how a child's mind works since watching my daughter learn to read. This was one of the many reasons for me to change my focus into Reading Recovery. However I began to miss the hustle and bustle of the classroom. I hope to apply all I have learned as a reading specialist to how I teach little ones to read. This will be my 11th year at Sand Hill Elementary and I am excited to be in First Grade. Sand Hill has become my family and I love it!
I am so excited to be a part of your child's learning. If there is anything I can do to help you or your child more, please let me know. And as always, you are welcome in my classroom anytime to take part in your child's learning.
