The Ebenezer Middle School "Spine Crackers" competed in the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl in February. The Reading Bowl is an annual event that originated in Dekalb County. Helen Ruffin, a Media Specialist in Dekalb, created the competition as a means to encourage reading and highlight nominee books from the Georgia Children's Book Awards. The team has spent months preparing for the event, including reading all 20 of the selected titles. The EMS Spine Crackers placed 5th in the region competition and are already looking forward to next year's contest.
Team members include: Carter Murdaugh, Charlay Dixon, Damian Elmore, Ryleah Campbell, Nolan Lamb, Truett Thompson, Nikki Romack, Kayla Stroll, Esha Bajwa, Makala Johnson, Ashlyn Williams, and Levi Thomas
