Georgia law provides that each local school superintendent is to enforce the compulsory attendance of all children between the ages of six and 16 in a public school, a private school or a home study program that meets legal requirements. Therefore, parents who choose to home school must file a Declaration of Intent form and a Monthly Attendance Form for each student enrolled in a home school. The forms must be mailed or hand delivered to the local Board of Education. The Declaration of Intent must be submitted by September 1st each year. The monthly attendance report must be submitted at the close of each month.
The local public school system will not attempt to monitor the curriculum, the test program, student assessment process, student records or instruction time of home study programs. For further information, parents may utilize the links provided to access the Georgia Department of Education website.
