Effingham County Schools
School Choice Privilege Options
For School Year 2017-2018
In accordance with Georgia law, Effingham County Schools provides a window of time each school year during which parents may make application to transfer their student to a school outside his or her attendance zone that has been identified as having available space. School Choice options include those available persuant to Effingham County Schools policy JBCA Resident Students and 'Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Program (Senate Bill 10)'. The procedures and rules for making application for school choice under these options for the 2017-2018 school year will be posted on the district website on March 27, 2017. The following schools will be open for School Choice for the 2017-2018 year:
Sand Hill Elementary
Effingham County Middle
Effingham County High
South Effingham High
*Ebenezer Elementary, South Effingham Elementary, and South Effingham Middle do not have space availability to accept non-resident students for the 2017-2018 school year.
Once a student has been approved to attend a non-zoned school under one of these School Choice options and maintains continuous enrollment, he or she may continue at that same school until all grades offered at that school have been completed, unless the student is deemed to have excessive absences, tardies, or early/late pickups. The school principal or superintendent's designee may, at his or her discretion, require a meeting with the parent/guardian to discuss excessive absences, tardies, or early/late pickups. If it is determined that the student's attendance issues are a result of non-zoned school attendance, the student may be required by the district to transfer to his or her zoned school A new application is only required if the student wishes to attend a different non-zoned school (i.e., when moving to 6th or 9th grade) or re-enters Effingham County Schools after being withdrawn.
School Choice applications will be available throughout the 2017-2018 Kindergarten registration period. Parents of upcoming Kindergartners, as well as those currently attending private school, home school, or public virtual school, must complete the registration process or schedule an appointment for registration before an application for School Choice will be accepted.
